News from Albion Park - Luke Gatehouse

Big Dog Pet Foods will also be sponsoring the Albion Park “bunny” and many races during the year.
We welcome Chris Essex and the Big Dog team aboard. 2008 Sky Channel Winter Chasing Carnival. The Winter Carnival is just around the corner.

'Esky' is nobody's Bunny
Taken from the Queensland Journal (April 2008)

HE was no one’s bunny when he was on the rugby league footy field a few years ago … so what’s changed for Chris Essex?
Essex is the former hard man backrower for Norths, Brothers and Redcliffe who got a run-on spot for the Melbourne Storm during his league career in the mid 1990’s to 2000. These days he and wife Kirsty run the successful Big Dog Pet Foods at Lawnton. “Esky” as he was known on the footy field and during trips to the Spring Racing Carnival each year, has always been one to put his hand in his pocket to help out a good cause.

The Greyhound Adoption Program knows only too well of his generosity. But these days he’s also mindful he has to keep the ”Big Dog” name to the fore so he’s taking on some added sponsorship … the bunny at Albion Park.

"The Big Dog Bunny, it’s got a ring to it," said Esky. "We are also sponsorship the bunny at the Gold Coast and have decided to put our name to the Queensland Cup at Albion Park."
"That race is one of the longest running in the country, and certainly in Queensland. It’s been won by some greats. Luke Gatehouse didn’t get me at a weak moment. We were quite happy to come on board. Porky Felgate can’t have all the glamour.”
The Big Dog Cup, over 600m, has been switched to a Thursday night and will be run on June 19 and 26. The winner will receive $15,000.
